Chennai, May 18 (NationPress) One of the most cherished actors in India, Vijay Sethupathi, expressed his sincere gratitude towards director Aarumugakumar, who is currently at the helm of his much-anticipated upcoming film 'Ace'. Aarumugakumar played an essential role in securing two pivotal film opportunities for Sethupathi during his nascent days in the industry.
At a pre-release press conference for 'Ace', Sethupathi shared, "When I first sought a chance in the film industry, I auditioned for a movie titled 'Varnam'. My photograph had been submitted to the film's producers by a manager named Bhoopathy. When I arrived, they briefed me on the scene and asked me to create my own dialogues and perform.
"That experience made me realize I could write dialogues too. I purchased hair gel from a local shop, styled my hair, and confidently delivered the lines I had crafted. It was Aarumugakumar who recommended my name to the film's producers, asserting, 'This actor is talented; you should choose him.'
"At that moment, Aarumugakumar and I were strangers, but he ardently advocated for me and facilitated that opportunity. I am deeply thankful to him for that," Sethupathi remarked.
Later, during the making of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kanom, Sethupathi was not the initial choice for his role. He learned from director Prem, known for the cult classic '96', that it was Aarumugakumar who strongly endorsed him for the part. Aarumugakumar had urged, "Please watch his audition before making any decisions. Don't dismiss him without giving him a chance to audition." Sethupathi expressed his gratitude for both opportunities.
Now regarded as one of the leading actors in India, he stated, "Assistance during prosperous times is commendable, but support during moments of uncertainty is priceless. It’s akin to illuminating a dark room. Aarumugakumar was the one who ignited that light for me. My heartfelt appreciation goes to him."
He also shared, "When my father was gravely ill, he worried about my future in acting. The photo I showed him to reassure him was taken on the set of 'Varnam', which helped to ease his concerns about my career," noted Sethupathi.
Ace, directed by Aarumugakumar, features Vijay Sethupathi, Yogi Babu, and Rukmini Vasanth in lead roles. Shot predominantly in Malaysia, the film is scheduled for release on May 23.
