Mumbai, March 4 (NationPress) Actor Vineet Kumar Singh expressed his thoughts on the trend of Bollywood scripts being composed in Roman despite the films being produced in Hindi.

In a candid discussion with IANS, the star of 'Chhaava' disclosed that he prefers receiving his dialogues in the Devanagari script.

He noted that although Bollywood produces films in Hindi, a significant portion of the work is conducted in English.

On a personal note, Vineet emphasized that scripts should be crafted in Devanagari since the dialogues spoken by actors are in Hindi.

When asked about the prevalence of Bollywood scripts in Roman and the use of teleprompters among actors, the 'Gangs of Wasseypur' star responded, "I consistently request my dialogues in Devanagari as I am fluent in it. Given that our dialogues are in Hindi, I believe it is more coherent if the script is also in the same language."

"Nonetheless, it varies according to personal preferences. Each individual is entitled to their choices. However, in my view, it's evident that we create films in Hindi, yet much of the work is executed in English," he elaborated.

Recalling past sentiments, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui previously voiced his concerns regarding this issue, advocating for Bollywood scripts to be written in Devanagari.

During a media event in 2022, the 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' star remarked that while directors and producers work in Hindi, they tend to communicate on set in English.

He further explained that not only do they converse in English, but scriptwriters, costume designers, production designers, and other crew members also engage in English dialogue, which sometimes results in confusion.

Point of View

I find Vineet Kumar Singh's perspective on the usage of Devanagari in Bollywood scripts to be both timely and relevant. The ongoing shift towards English in a Hindi film industry raises questions about cultural identity and the authenticity of storytelling. Singh’s insistence on maintaining Hindi in its original script resonates with many who value linguistic heritage.
