Filmmaker and comedian Vir Das has officially revealed the ensemble cast for his upcoming directorial Baara Number, a found-footage psychological horror film set to begin shooting in Mumbai in June 2025. The announcement follows the film's initial reveal on 2 April, and brings together some of Indian cinema's most distinctive character actors.

Who Is in the Cast

The confirmed cast includes Arunoday Singh, Atul Kulkarni, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Sheeba Chaddha, Ahsaas Channa, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Suhail Nayyar, Puja Sarup, and Naveen Kaushik. Vir Das himself will also appear as part of the multi-character ensemble.

What Vir Das Said About the Ensemble

Speaking about the casting choices, Vir Das said: 'What made this project especially exciting was bringing together a group of actors whose work I've admired for years. Sheeba, Atul, Arunoday, Shriya, Ahsaas, Niharika, Suhail and Naveen each bring a distinct energy, intelligence and authenticity to the film.'

He added: 'Horror works best when audiences believe every moment is real, and this ensemble has elevated the material beyond anything I imagined when we first started writing it.'

The Film and Its Creative Team

Baara Number is a found-footage psychological horror film, a genre that demands naturalistic performances and a tightly controlled atmosphere. Vir Das is co-directing the project alongside Kavi Shastri — a collaboration that continues from their previous work together. The film has reportedly been in development for some time and is expected to explore both external tension and internal human psychology.

The initial shooting schedule is planned in Mumbai, with the production going on floors this month.

Context: Vir Das as a Director

Notably, Baara Number is not Vir Das's first turn behind the camera. His maiden directorial was Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, produced under Aamir Khan Productions, which also starred Mithila Palkar, Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi, and Srushti Tawade. That film marked the return of Imran Khan to the screen after more than a decade since Katti Batti.

With Baara Number, Das is venturing into significantly darker creative territory — a sharp stylistic departure from the spy-comedy tone of his debut.
