Zeenat Aman Reveals Challenges of Filming Iconic Scene with Amitabh Bachchan in 'Don'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 2 (NationPress) Although it appeared effortless on screen, Zeenat Aman faced significant hurdles while filming one of the iconic scenes from the 1978 movie Don. The actress reflected on the complexities of pushing the legendary Amitabh Bachchan in a wheelchair during a pivotal moment, revealing that the behind-the-scenes experience was far from seamless.
Zeenat took to Instagram to share a clip from this action-packed thriller, which was helmed by Chandra Barot.
In the memorable sequence where her character Roma cleverly deceives the police and makes a daring escape with the incapacitated Don from a hospital, Zeenat explained that while the scene appeared smooth on film, it was anything but easy to film.
“Is there such a thing as 'vintage video Wednesday'? Yes, this is the iconic scene from the original 1978 Don—Roma, ever resourceful and bold, tricks the police and escapes with an unconscious Don from a hospital room,” Zeenat wrote in her post.
She added that she felt completely comfortable working on the film due to her previous collaborations with much of the cast and crew.
“I was already familiar with many of the cast and crew from earlier projects, which made the filming process enjoyable,” she stated.
Expressing her affection for her character, Zeenat described Roma as intelligent, daring, and effortlessly fashionable.
“I truly enjoyed portraying Roma. She was clever, bold, and smooth. Who wouldn’t want to embody such a remarkable woman?”
However, the execution of the scene brought its own challenges.
“Unfortunately, maintaining a smooth facade on set that day was quite difficult! You may wonder why.”
Referring to the wheelchair as a “relic,” Zeenat shared that keeping a straight face while struggling behind the scenes made the experience particularly unforgettable.
The actress elaborated: “That ancient wheelchair, combined with Mr. Bachchan’s weight, was extremely difficult to maneuver. I had to keep a straight face while exerting all my strength!”
She also expressed her enthusiasm for a potential reboot of Don.
“I would be very interested in seeing another reboot of Don, as I really enjoyed the last one too. What are your thoughts?” she concluded her post.
Don features Amitabh Bachchan in a dual role, alongside Zeenat Aman, Pran, Iftekhar, Om Shivpuri, and Satyen Kappu in supporting roles. It became the third highest-grossing Indian film of 1978 and was recognized as a golden jubilee hit by Box Office India.
The film laid the groundwork for the Don franchise, leading to a remake titled Don: The Chase Begins Again and its sequel, Don 2, both starring Shah Rukh Khan.
