Did the ‘Ya Ali’ singer Zubeen Garg really pass away in an accident?

Mumbai, Sep 19 (NationPress) In a profoundly tragic event, renowned Assamese vocalist and music composer Zubeen Garg has lost his life due to a scuba diving accident in Singapore.

He was promptly retrieved from the ocean by Singapore police and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was placed in the ICU. Despite receiving critical care, medical professionals were unable to save him.

The entire Bollywood community, particularly those in the music sector, is reeling from this heartbreaking news. Artist Jubin Nautiyal expressed his sorrow on social media, posting a tribute to Zubeen, stating, "Zubeen Garg ~ (18.11.1972 - 19.09.2025) Your melodies will resonate in our hearts forever, a genuine talent taken from us too soon. Rest in peace. My condolences to the family. Shiv shiv shiv." Similarly, singer Papon shared his grief, saying, "This is utterly shocking! The voice of a generation! Departed too soon. I'm at a loss for words! Lost a friend. Lost a brother. A significant void. I pray for his soul’s peaceful journey."

Pritam, the music composer, also shared his sorrow and wrote on social media, "The news of Zubeen losing his life in an accident is devastating and incredibly sad. I'm still struggling to come to terms with it... My deepest condolences to Garima and his family. Om Shanti."

Zubeen had traveled to Singapore for the upcoming 4th North East India Festival at Suntec, set for the 20th and 21st of September. Just hours before the tragedy, he had shared an enthusiastic invitation for his fans via social media.

In a video, he urged his fans, "Friends in Singapore, I would like to invite you to the 4th North East India Festival at Suntec, Singapore, on the 20th and 21st of September. Come and discover the unique aspects of India. We will showcase quality agricultural products, crafts, tea experiences, dance forms, fashion shows, and evening musical performances featuring rock bands and rappers from India's Northeast." He further mentioned, "I will be present throughout the festival as a cultural brand ambassador and will perform on the evening of the 20th with my beloved Hindi, Bengali, and Assamese songs. I invite you all; it will be Saturday and Sunday, and entry is free. Please come and support us. Cheers!"

A viral video on social media captures Zubeen Garg in high spirits, reveling in live music just hours before his untimely accident. He was seen spontaneously joining the band for a performance alongside a close friend, marking what may be remembered as his final stage appearance.

Zubeen Garg was a celebrated singer in Northeast India. While he was esteemed as the voice of Assam, his Bollywood breakthrough came with the iconic track 'Ya Ali' from the movie 'Gangster', released in 2006, which catapulted him to fame across India.

For those unfamiliar, Zubeen's younger sister, Jongki Borthakur, an actress and singer, tragically died in a car accident in February 2002 in Assam's Sonitpur district en route to a stage performance.

In her honor, Zubeen released a heartfelt album Xixhu later that year. He was married to fashion designer and costume director Garima Saika Garg.
