An official from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) stated that the MoU was formalized between AIIMS, Delhi and the Health and Family Welfare Department of Tripura's government, with Chief Minister Manik Saha present in New Delhi.
CM Saha, who also oversees the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, expressed his pride in the signing of this MoU aimed at upgrading medical colleges as well as state and district-level hospitals in Tripura to transform them into Centres of Excellence for medical education and advanced healthcare services that meet international standards.
“The state government aims to turn Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital into a medical hub offering cutting-edge facilities for patient care, inspired by the standards of AIIMS, Delhi,” said the Chief Minister following the MoU signing.
CM Saha, a dental surgeon by profession, highlighted that AIIMS, Delhi is a globally recognized institution celebrated for its innovative contributions to medical education, research, and superior patient care.
“The partnership between AIIMS, Delhi, and Tripura's Health Department signifies a key advancement towards improving the overall quality and accessibility of healthcare services throughout the state,” he added.
The Chief Minister reiterated the commitment of the state government to deliver the highest quality healthcare services to its residents.
On this occasion, AIIMS, New Delhi Director M. Srinivas and senior officials from Tripura's Health Department were in attendance at Tripura Bhawan, New Delhi.
In June, a four-member team from AIIMS, led by Director Srinivas, visited government-run AGMC and Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, among others, to assess health services and related aspects.
The AIIMS team visited Tripura at the request of Chief Minister Saha.
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister met with Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda in New Delhi to discuss various health infrastructure issues, including plans for a new medical college in the state, as an official noted.
A senior CMO official revealed that the Chief Minister informed Union Minister Nadda about plans to establish a new Medical College in Kulai, located in northern Tripura's Dhalai district, which is considered an aspirational district, through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
Saha also discussed the creation of a Tertiary Ophthalmology Hospital in Agartala and the establishment of an Immunology Lab for Organ Transplant services at AGMC and GBP Hospital.

Currently, Tripura has three medical colleges: Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), Tripura Medical College (TMC), and Tripura Santiniketan Medical College (TSMC).
TSMC is a private institution, while TMC is managed by a society established by the state government.
