Chandigarh, May 28 (NationPress) A 40-year-old individual, who was confirmed to have Covid-19, passed away at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chandigarh on Wednesday, according to officials.
This incident marks the first reported case in a healthcare setting within Chandigarh.
However, the hospital officials have not yet verified if the patient was afflicted with the latest JN.1 variant.
The patient, who hailed from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, was transferred to GMCH from Ludhiana after receiving a positive Covid-19 test.
On the previous day, GMCH Director Dr. Ashok Atri mentioned that the patient's data was recorded in the necessary format, and the individual was isolated in the Covid ward equipped with two ventilators.
He reassured that there is currently no cause for alarm.
Just two days ago, Punjab recorded its first Covid-19 case when a 51-year-old woman from Yamunanagar, Haryana, tested positive at Fortis Hospital in Mohali, located nearby.
In Haryana, the state Health Minister Arti Singh Rao reported last week that there are currently four active cases of the coronavirus—two each in Gurugram and Faridabad within the National Capital Region.
Notably, the infected individuals have no travel history.
The minister stated that all four patients—two men and two women—exhibit mild symptoms and are under home quarantine.
"There has been no need for hospitalization, and all patients are under regular medical supervision. All four individuals have been vaccinated. One person from Gurugram who was previously diagnosed has already recovered," the minister remarked in a statement on May 23.
