Nairobi, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Indian High Commissioner to Kenya, Adarsh Swaika, met with Aden Duale, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Health, on Tuesday to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the healthcare sector. This includes areas such as pharmaceuticals, pharma manufacturing, medical equipment, medical devices, and capacity building.
The Indian High Commission highlighted that India is a trusted and long-term partner of Kenya in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. They also pointed out that India is a favored destination for thousands of Kenyans seeking medical tourism each year.
“High Commissioner Adarsh Swaika met with Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale today. Our discussions centered around strengthening India-Kenya collaboration in healthcare, focusing on pharmaceuticals, manufacturing equipment, medical devices, and capacity enhancement. The meeting highlighted our mutual commitment to improving access to and affordability of healthcare,” the statement read on X.
“India has maintained its position as a reliable partner for Kenya in the health and pharmaceutical fields. Indian pharmaceutical products hold a significant share in the Kenyan market, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, India attracts numerous Kenyan patients each year, reflecting trust in the advanced medical facilities and expertise available there,” it further stated.
On Monday, discussions between India and Kenya also touched upon the prompt execution of ongoing projects and initiatives to enhance cooperation in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), emerging technologies, digital skills, and innovation, including collaborations between startups and tech ecosystems in both countries.
These talks occurred during a meeting between the Indian envoy and William Kabogo, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy.
“High Commissioner Adarsh Swaika met with Cabinet Secretary for ICT William Kabogo today. We discussed the fast-tracking of ongoing projects and proposals to enhance India-Kenya collaboration in ICT, emerging technologies, digital skills, and innovation, as well as partnerships between startups and tech ecosystems,” the Indian mission shared on X.
“They also acknowledged the recent visit of the Kenyan delegation to India, led by Mercy Wanjau, Secretary to the Cabinet, to advance DPI cooperation between the two nations,” the statement added.
Kabogo emphasized that both nations aim to deepen strategic partnerships that promote their digital transformation agenda and reinforce their status as regional technology leaders. He noted the significance of revamping the national broadcaster KBC and enhancing ICT infrastructure.
“We are eager to strengthen strategic partnerships that support our digital transformation agenda and bolster our role as a regional technology leader. This morning, I was privileged to meet with High Commissioner of India to Kenya, Dr. Adarsh Swaika, who paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry Headquarters. We reaffirmed our strong partnership between Kenya and India and explored extensive opportunities in the digital sphere, including emerging technologies, cybersecurity, and enhancing digital skills,” Kabogo stated on X.
“The meeting highlighted the need for revitalizing the national broadcaster KBC and developing critical ICT infrastructure. We reiterated our commitment to leveraging emerging technologies to enhance socio-economic growth and improve public digital services,” he added.
