Jharkhand Government Adjusts School Hours Amidst Heatwave and Health Alerts

Ranchi, April 20 (NationPress) In response to the extreme heatwave gripping Jharkhand, the state authorities have adjusted school schedules to ensure the safety and comfort of students. In tandem, the Health Department has declared a yellow alert, urging all districts to stay vigilant.
As per a directive from the School Education and Literacy Department on Monday, educational activities in all government, aided, and private institutions will commence in the morning starting April 21.
For students in KG through Class 8, classes will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., while those in Classes 9 to 12 will attend from 7 a.m. until 12 noon. However, teachers and non-instructional staff at government schools are required to be present from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for administrative duties.
Concurrently, the Health Department has raised a yellow alert due to escalating temperatures. Dr. Irfan Ansari, the Minister of Disaster Management and Health, has directed district administrations to maintain readiness and implement necessary measures.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted that temperatures in approximately 10 districts could soar between 40 and 44 degrees Celsius, with an additional rise of 3 to 5 degrees anticipated in the upcoming days.
On Sunday, Daltonganj recorded the highest temperature in the state at 43.9 degrees Celsius, while Ranchi reached around 39 degrees Celsius.
The weather bureau has also issued warnings regarding heatwave conditions in several regions, advising the public to refrain from outdoor activities between noon and 3 p.m. There may also be strong winds and lightning in certain areas.
In light of the situation, the Health Department has instructed all hospitals, community health centers, and primary health facilities to stock ample ORS, IV fluids, and essential medications. Individuals showing signs of heat-related illnesses are urged to seek prompt medical help.
District officials have been tasked with ensuring availability of drinking water, shaded areas, temporary shelters, and emergency ambulance services. The public is advised to avoid venturing out on an empty stomach, dress in light cotton attire, and stay well-hydrated.
