New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) In an effort to facilitate quicker, clearer, and user-centric access to healthcare services, the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is set to unveil its advanced Health Management Information System (HMIS) on April 28, as announced on Wednesday.
Created by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), this all-encompassing digital platform is being introduced due to the outdated nature of the current CGHS software, which has been operational since 2005 and does not meet modern IT standards, cybersecurity protocols, and user demands.
The enhanced HMIS will provide quicker, clearer, and user-friendly access to CGHS services, leading to enhanced service delivery and administrative effectiveness, as stated by the Health Ministry.
To ensure a smooth transition, all CGHS services, including those at Wellness Centres, will be temporarily suspended for one day on April 26. This short break is essential for completing data migration, transition activities, and final checks.
Significant improvements in the New CGHS HMIS include PAN-based unique beneficiary identification, an integrated digital verification and contribution tracking system, pre-payment examination of applications, online card modification options, real-time application tracking and notifications, and mandatory password resets for secure access.
All current users will be required to reset their passwords upon first login. This measure is being taken as a part of cyber hygiene, in line with MeitY security recommendations.
CGHS mobile applications for both Android and iOS will be relaunched with an upgraded interface and integrated digital services.
Beneficiaries are encouraged to utilize all online services, such as registration, application, grievance resolution, and information retrieval, exclusively through this new portal. All existing beneficiary data, including medical histories and pharmacy transactions, are being securely migrated to prevent any data loss. This transition adheres fully to government data privacy and protection regulations, as confirmed by the ministry.
Furthermore, the department will be integrated into the new CGHS Platform to enable a paperless approval process. Meanwhile, departments can continue to submit applications physically at their respective CGHS Card Sections.
