The post highlighted the necessity for quality medicines to be affordable and accessible, particularly for individuals battling chronic illnesses. “Long-term illnesses should never impose a financial burden on families. Under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana is revolutionizing healthcare by making quality medications for chronic conditions both affordable and available,” the post emphasized.
It went on to mention that the initiative aspires to create a future where healthcare and dignity are not merely privileges, but fundamental rights for all citizens.
According to the data shared in the post, Jan Aushadhi Kendras provide quality medicines at prices that are between 50% to 80% lower than branded alternatives, significantly alleviating healthcare costs for families across India.
The initiative has enabled citizens nationwide to save over Rs 40,000 crore through their purchases at Jan Aushadhi Kendras. On average, approximately 15 lakh customers acquire medicines daily from these centers, establishing them as a preferred healthcare choice for millions.
The network of Jan Aushadhi Kendras has experienced rapid growth over the years. The number of stores has surged 224 times in the past 12 years, increasing from merely 80 centers in 2014 to nearly 18,000 by 2026, thereby enhancing access to affordable medications throughout the country.
Sales at Jan Aushadhi Kendras have also soared, rising nearly 270 times—from Rs 7.29 crore in 2014–15 to over Rs 2,000 crore by February 2025, illustrating growing public trust in the initiative.
These centers now offer a comprehensive range of healthcare products, providing more than 2,110 medicines and 315 surgical items across 29 therapeutic categories, positioning them as a one-stop destination for essential medical supplies.
Additionally, the initiative has played a crucial role in promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and accessibility. More than 100 crore sanitary pads have been sold through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, where sanitary pads are available at just Rs 1 per pad.
Women entrepreneurs have significantly contributed to the growth of the scheme. Almost 60% of the new Jan Aushadhi stores opened in the last three financial years have been managed by women, as highlighted in the post.
