Chennai, July 6 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP has expressed grave concerns regarding a growing healthcare crisis at the Government Royapuram R.S.R.M. Hospital in Chennai, prompting an urgent appeal for intervention by the state Health Minister Ma. Subramanian.
BJP state spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad has called on the state government to take swift action to rectify what he describes as “gross negligence” within the maternity and child healthcare department of this historic hospital.
Notably, the hospital, renowned for its maternity services, is currently undergoing construction, specifically painting projects, behind the maternity ward, which is significantly disturbing patients.
The BJP asserts that the loud noises and dust produced by this work are causing considerable distress to both newborns and their mothers.
“Parents are understandably concerned about the potential repercussions of the incessant noise and subpar air quality on their children’s health. This lack of foresight and indifference towards patient welfare is thoroughly alarming,” Prasad stated.
The situation has intensified following reports of four newborns suffering from severe allergic reactions on their necks, suspected to be due to unsanitary painting and cleaning practices within the hospital, raising serious doubts about infection control and patient safety protocols.
“This clearly indicates a total failure by the hospital administration to uphold a sterile environment,” Prasad alleged.
“Newborns and mothers recovering from surgeries are especially vulnerable. Noise, dust, and unsanitary conditions can exacerbate respiratory and dermatological issues.”
He called for an immediate investigation into these matters, urging the Health Secretary and Health Minister to personally examine the hospital and ensure accountability for any procedural shortcomings.
The BJP has also insisted that those accountable for this negligence be held responsible.
“The government must prioritize this issue,” Prasad emphasized.
“The health and safety of patients, particularly those from underprivileged and middle-class backgrounds reliant on government healthcare, should never be compromised.”
He further appealed to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to guarantee that all government hospitals in Tamil Nadu are maintained in a clean, safe, and patient-friendly manner.
