Chennai, March 16 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has vehemently criticized the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, claiming a significant decline in law and order following an alarming incident at a government hospital. A group of men, reportedly under the influence of substances, unlawfully entered the maternity ward of a government hospital, causing distress among patients and medical staff.

BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran referenced the incident that took place in Cuddalore district, where intoxicated individuals threatened healthcare professionals and patients, highlighting the escalating drug crisis in the region.

In a statement on Monday, Nagenthran noted that the unsettling event transpired at the Government Hospital in Kattumannarkoil, raising serious concerns about the safety protocols in public healthcare facilities.

Reports indicate that several men, allegedly high on ganja, forcibly entered the maternity ward, wielding a sickle and intimidating those present. Although no injuries were reported, the BJP leader emphasized that such occurrences in a maternity ward are deeply troubling.

“It is profoundly concerning that individuals under the influence could threaten doctors and patients in a government hospital, especially in a maternity ward. This situation poses serious questions regarding public safety and hospital security,” he stated.

Nagenthran further contended that the rampant availability of narcotics throughout Tamil Nadu has led to an increase in such distressing incidents. He asserted that drugs are now easily accessible even in local convenience stores, exacerbating the situation.

“Under the current administration, narcotics can reportedly be found in small shops, and people under the influence are often seen roaming freely in public areas, including schools, hospitals, and offices,” he expressed.

The BJP leader noted that incidents related to drug abuse are becoming common, instilling fear among the populace. He remarked that the deteriorating law-and-order climate has left many citizens hesitant to confront individuals exhibiting violent behavior or disturbances due to substance influence.

In a critical remark towards Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s earlier assurances of making Tamil Nadu a drug-free State, Nagenthran accused the DMK government of minimizing the gravity of the situation.

“Despite the government’s claims that Tamil Nadu does not face a significant drug threat, incidents like the one in Kattumannarkoil reveal the truth,” he urged, calling for immediate and effective measures from the State government to combat the narcotics issue and safeguard public safety.
