Kolkata, Oct 13 (NationPress) The newly appointed West Bengal BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP, Samik Bhattacharya, was admitted to a hospital on Monday as his health condition became slightly critical, according to party sources.
As per insiders from the party, Bhattacharya had been experiencing fever for several days but continued to fulfill his responsibilities at the BJP state headquarters in Kolkata despite his illness.
"However, on Monday, his health worsened, and he began feeling extremely weak. His physician opted for hospitalization at a private facility in the city to ensure his well-being," stated a member of the state BJP committee.
They also emphasized that Bhattacharya had been exceptionally dedicated in managing both his roles as the state Party President and as a Rajya Sabha member.
"Since taking on the position of state party President, he has traveled extensively across the state, concentrating on fortifying the organizational structure, particularly at the booth level," they explained.
Just last week, Bhattacharya visited North Bengal, which was severely affected by floods and landslides.
He experienced a fever after returning to Kolkata from this trip.
During his visit, he engaged with those impacted by the floods and directed local BJP leaders in North Bengal to assist the affected communities.
Additionally, he launched a sharp political critique against the state government following assaults on BJP Lok Sabha member Khagen Murmu and the party's chief whip in the state Assembly, Shankar Ghosh, allegedly by activists of the Trinamool Congress.
"Despite his fever, Bhattacharya pressed on with his work, disregarding the counsel from party members to rest for a few days. However, on Monday, his condition was such that he could not focus on his political responsibilities. Consequently, the doctors recommended hospitalization," remarked the state committee member.
Currently, Samik Bhattacharya is 62 years old.
