Beijing, Feb 20 (NationPress) A contingent of 200 Chinese nationals accused of engaging in fraudulent activities has been repatriated to China with the assistance of Chinese law enforcement on Thursday, following their transfer from Myawaddy in Myanmar.
The suspects were initially taken to Mae Sot in Thailand, a border town adjacent to Myawaddy, before being transported back to China via multiple chartered flights. They landed at an airport in Nanjing, the capital city of eastern Jiangsu Province.
This group comprises the first set of telecom fraud suspects sent back from Myanmar to China, as reported by the Ministry of Public Security.
Furthermore, the ministry indicated that over 800 additional Chinese fraud suspects are anticipated to be repatriated in the near future.
The return of these suspects signifies a notable success in the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies from China, Myanmar, and Thailand in tackling telecom fraud, according to the ministry.
Recent reports from Xinhua indicate that law enforcement bodies from the three nations have initiated a joint operation to address telecom fraud in Myawaddy.
In line with this initiative, Thailand has halted electricity, internet, and fuel supplies to Myawaddy and intensified patrols to deter illegal crossings by individuals involved in fraudulent activities.
Myanmar has also deployed forces to raid telecom fraud facilities in Myawaddy, apprehending fraud suspects and rescuing Chinese individuals trapped within these scam operations.
An official from the ministry stated that the three nations plan to formalize collaborative operations to combat telecom fraud and other cross-border crimes regularly. The ministry also committed to continuing the dismantling of telecom fraud centers and ensuring the safety and property of Chinese citizens.
