Beirut, Jan 27 (NationPress) The toll of fatalities from Israeli strikes on groups of Lebanese attempting to return to their residences in southern Lebanon has escalated to 22, which includes six women, while 124 others sustained injuries, as reported by the Lebanese Health Ministry.

A military source from Lebanon informed Xinhua that an Israeli contingent, supported by a Merkava tank and a bulldozer, moved towards a crowd of civilians in the village of Mays al-Jabal, and opened fire excessively to intimidate and scatter the residents.
The Israeli forces also obstructed the primary route at the entrance to the United Nations Interim Force headquarters in Naqoura, situated in southern Lebanon. The source added that the military discharged several flares over Mays al-Jabal and the Arqoub Heights in eastern Lebanon, in addition to unleashing machine-gun fire towards Mount Sadaneh, located west of Shebaa in southeastern Lebanon, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Sunday marks the conclusion of a 60-day ultimatum for Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territories. Under a ceasefire agreement established in late November, after prolonged conflict between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, the Lebanese army was expected to assume control of the regions south of the Litani River, ensuring security and preventing the presence of weapons and militants.
Even with the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli military has persisted in executing attacks in Lebanon, some of which have led to fatalities and injuries in border regions.
Earlier on Sunday, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported that the death toll from Israeli gunfire targeting crowds of Lebanese aiming to return to their homes in southern Lebanon had risen to 11, with 83 others injured.
Out of the eleven victims, ten were civilians attempting to return to their still-occupied hometowns along Lebanon's southern border with Israel, while the eleventh was a soldier who lost his life in al-Dhahira, also located in southern Lebanon.
