Afghan Authorities Detain 12 Suspected Drug Traffickers

Kabul, Dec 30 (NationPress) Afghan counter-narcotics police have detained 12 individuals on charges of drug smuggling across seven of Afghanistan's 34 provinces, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Interior on Monday.
The report indicates that law enforcement has apprehended individuals purportedly involved in the sale, purchase, and smuggling of illegal substances in the outskirts of Laghman, Bamyan, Kapisa, Parwan, Kunduz, Herat, and Farah provinces.
A range of illicit drugs, including opium, hashish, and stimulant tablets, were confiscated from the suspects, and their cases have been forwarded to the judiciary for additional inquiry, as stated by Xinhua news agency.
Previously, on December 22, the Afghan counter-narcotics police confiscated 38 kg of illegal substances and detained 11 suspects linked to drug trafficking and sales, according to the Ministry of Interior.
Counter-narcotics units recently executed an operation in the Durbaba district of eastern Nangarhar province, uncovering 38 kg of illicit drugs, including methamphetamine and heroin, the ministry noted in a statement.
Eleven individuals were apprehended in connection with drug trafficking operations in the outskirts of Laghman, Kapisa, Parwan, Khost, and Farah, as highlighted in another statement.
On December 18, counter-narcotics police revealed 56 kg of illegal drugs and arrested 151 individuals on drug trafficking charges over the last three months in eastern Parwan province, according to reports from a local police official.
Separate operations were conducted by counter-narcotics police around Charikar city, the capital of Parwan, and in various districts, leading to the discovery of 56 kg of illegal drugs, as stated by Fazal Rahim Maskenyar, spokesman for the provincial police.
At least 151 individuals were detained on drug trafficking charges, with their cases sent to the judiciary for further investigation, as he added.
On November 12, the counter-narcotics police in Afghanistan seized illegal drugs and arrested 53 individuals for their involvement in criminal activities, including drug trafficking and murders.
Separate operations conducted in southern Kandahar province led to the discovery of 129 kg of illegal drugs, including heroin, opium, and hashish, as reported by the provincial police office.
Nine individuals were detained for their connections to drug trafficking and sales, with their cases referred to the judiciary for further investigation, according to the statement.
Additionally, police apprehended 44 suspects for involvement in criminal activities such as murder and theft across Nangarhar, Balkh, Laghman, Farah, Baghlan, and Herat provinces, as reported by the Ministry of Interior.
The Afghan caretaker government has committed to combating illicit drugs, drug production, and trafficking, alongside cracking down on other criminal elements to ensure law and order throughout the nation.
