Australia Pledges Further Humanitarian Support for Sudan

Canberra, Nov 28 (NationPress) The Australian government has pledged further assistance to tackle famine and humanitarian challenges in Sudan.
On Wednesday evening, the federal government announced a commitment of 17 million Australian dollars (approximately $11.04 million) in humanitarian support for Sudan, as reported by Xinhua news agency, amidst the ongoing civil conflict in the nation.
This brings Australia's total humanitarian aid to Sudan and its neighboring countries since the conflict began in April 2023 to 50 million Australian dollars (around $32.4 million).
Penny Wong, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, stated in a joint announcement with Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Tim Watts and Pat Conroy, the Minister for International Development and the Pacific, that Sudan is currently experiencing the world's largest crises related to hunger and displacement.
As per the United Nations World Food Programme, over 25 million individuals in Sudan are currently facing acute hunger.
Wong condemned the violence against civilians and aid workers in the area, urging all parties to agree on a permanent ceasefire.
