Baloch Yakjehti Committee Denounces Pakistan's Fabricated Claims Against Activists
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, March 19 (NationPress) The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has vehemently criticized the so-called “groundless, politically charged accusations” directed at the organization and its prominent leader, Sabiha Baloch. The BYC emphasized that it has consistently pursued a non-violent approach, fervently advocating for human rights in Balochistan.
The committee raised alarms following a press conference held by Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti and the Inspector General of Police. During this event, they introduced Farzana Zehri, who was forcibly disappeared from Khuzdar district in December 2025. After enduring over three and a half months of isolation, she was coerced into speaking against BYC and Sabiha, accusing them of connections to militant factions and purported training for suicide attacks.
The rights organization expressed serious concerns, alleging that the Pakistani establishment is “deploying propaganda and orchestrated press conferences to suppress human rights advocates.”
“This situation raises critical constitutional and legal issues: where was Farzana Zehri during her disappearance? Why was she not presented before a judicial authority? And why was she held in isolation instead of a lawful detention facility? Her coerced testimony lacks credibility,” stated the BYC.
“Such propaganda seems intentionally designed to legitimize the unlawful detention of BYC leaders and to undermine a peaceful movement that seeks justice. There is no substantiated evidence connecting Sabiha Baloch or BYC with these claims,” it added.
The rights organization insisted that Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti and relevant authorities produce tangible proof or publicly retract their defamatory statements. The BYC remains “dedicated to a peaceful struggle and will persist in voicing resistance against injustice, regardless of intimidation tactics.”
Naseem Baloch, Chairman of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), shared a video of the press conference on his social media platform X, asserting that Farzana was compelled to identify Sabiha as a “handler of suicide bombers.” He condemned this as “extremely reprehensible” and part of a systematic effort to silence Baloch activists.
“The individual seen in the video was reportedly abducted and isolated for months. Forcing a disappeared individual into prolonged detention and torture to yield a coerced statement is a severe breach of human rights and a blatant example of coercion,” Naseem remarked.
“This conduct reflects a broader trend in Balochistan, where enforced disappearances are not only utilized to silence dissenters but also to manipulate victims against fellow activists. Such strategies aim to instill fear, foster distrust, and dismantle peaceful movements striving for justice,” he concluded.
