Key Takeaways
Washington, Dec 10 (NationPress) Tara Chand, President of Baloch American Congress, highlighted the serious human rights violations perpetrated by Pakistan's “radical Islamic army” in Balochistan as the world marked International Human Rights Day.
“Today, as we celebrate Human Rights Day globally, it is crucial to remind the international community that Pakistan's radical Islamic army has been responsible for grave atrocities in Balochistan. Leaders like Mahrang Baloch and the BYC have been unlawfully detained by military agencies for extended periods without any formal charges. Nasreen Baloch, Mehjeen Baloch, Fauzia Baloch, and countless innocent Baloch students, educators, medical professionals, and political activists have faced enforced disappearances and are taken to covert torture facilities,” the Baloch leader wrote on X.
“There is a complete absence of legal proceedings. The army treats the Baloch population as if they are mere slaves. For years, it has been oppressing the Baloch nation while exploiting the natural wealth of Balochistan,” he remarked.
Chand accused the Pakistani military of trying to impose a rigid religious ideology in Balochistan, aiming to transform the region into a radical Islamic state. He underscored that while the international community remains silent, the Baloch people continue to stand against these egregious abuses.
“These actions represent major violations of human rights. The oppression faced by Balochistan has reached unprecedented levels. The world needs to unite with the Baloch people, demand an end to these injustices, and call for the withdrawal of the Pakistani army from Balochistan,” the Baloch leader emphasized.
On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ) also shed light on the ongoing systematic violations of human rights by Pakistani authorities in Balochistan.
“Despite global commitments to uphold human dignity, the citizens of Balochistan continue to endure enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, and the suppression of fundamental freedoms,” BVJ stated.
“The ongoing violations in Balochistan not only undermine the rule of law but also jeopardize regional stability and international human rights standards,” it noted.
The rights organization called on the United Nations to publicly recognize the ongoing human rights crisis in Balochistan and demand accountability for enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. Furthermore, it urged the UN to implement independent monitoring mechanisms to investigate and report on these violations and to support the Baloch people in securing their fundamental rights to life, liberty, and freedom of expression.
