Ottawa, May 3 (NationPress) Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday.

"Earlier today, I had a productive discussion with President Trump, and we have agreed to convene next Tuesday in Washington," Carney shared during his first press conference following Monday's elections.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the primary topics of the meeting will revolve around tariffs and the US-Canada relationship, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

"Our discussions will target both immediate trade challenges and the broader economic and security collaboration between our two independent nations," Carney explained.

Additionally, he noted that King Charles III will present a speech detailing the priorities of the Canadian government on May 27, coinciding with the resumption of Parliament.

"There are two categories of issues at hand. The first includes immediate tariffs, both sector-specific and reciprocal, including those related to fentanyl, while the second concerns our overall relationship," Carney remarked.

"Thus, the meeting will address both categories of issues. We will monitor the progress closely," he stated.

When questioned about preventing a public dispute similar to the one that transpired between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office earlier this year, Carney expressed his expectation for a "challenging but constructive" dialogue.

"I approach this meeting with the anticipation of constructive—challenging, yet constructive—discussions," Carney affirmed.

"This aligns with the spirit of the conversations I have had with the President," he added.

Carney also mentioned that his country would "never" submit to US demands as he declared victory in the federal elections, which had been marked by ongoing provocations and significant trade tariffs imposed by Trump.

This meeting will mark the first occasion a sovereign has opened Parliament since Queen Elizabeth II last did so in 1957.

The reassembly of Parliament will involve the election of the Speaker, followed by the Speech from the Throne.

According to Buckingham Palace, King Charles and Queen Camilla will be visiting Canada from May 26 to May 27 to attend the State Opening of the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa.

Following Monday's elections, the Liberal Party is poised to establish a minority government.

The current calendar for the House of Commons indicates that May 26 is the first scheduled sitting date for Members of Parliament.
