China Issues Blue Alert for Typhoon Pabuk

Beijing, Dec 23 (NationPress) The national observatory of China has issued a blue alert on Monday evening for Typhoon Pabuk, which is projected to deliver strong winds and heavy rain to the southern parts of the nation.

Typhoon Pabuk, marking the 26th typhoon of the year, was detected 190 km north of Yongshu Reef, part of the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea, at 5 pm on Monday.

The forecast indicates that it will advance westward and subsequently shift southwest at a speed of 5-10 km per hour, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

Due to the typhoon's influence, gales are expected to impact areas of the East China Sea, the waters to the east of Taiwan Island, the Taiwan Strait, the Bashi Channel, the Beibu Gulf, the South China Sea, and coastal regions of Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, and Hainan from 8 pm Monday to 8 pm Tuesday, the center indicated.

Additionally, areas such as Xisha Qundao, Zhongsha Qundao, and Nansha Qundao are forecasted to experience severe rainstorms, with rainfall amounts reaching between 50 mm and 80 mm.

The center has advised local authorities to implement emergency typhoon plans and maintain a heightened state of alert for potential flooding and geological hazards.

Previously, last month, typhoon Man-yi caused tidal surges in Guangdong Province, leading to waterlogging in numerous cities and towns and the halting of ferry services.

In October, typhoon Trami resulted in the loss of seven lives in the Hainan province.

Trami, the 20th typhoon of the year, brought heavy rains to various regions in Hainan starting from October 28, necessitating the evacuation of over 40,000 individuals.

China utilizes a four-tier color-coded weather alert system, with red indicating the most critical warning, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.

In September, over 430,000 residents in Shangqiu City, located in Henan Province, were affected by substantial rainfall linked to typhoon Bebinca.

Bebinca was the 13th typhoon of 2024 and made landfall in Shanghai on September 16, being the strongest typhoon to impact the city in 75 years.
