China Promises to Crush 'Taiwan Independence' Efforts

Beijing, Dec 26 (NationPress) A spokesperson for the Chinese military on Thursday criticized the United States for its arms sales to Taiwan and pledged to crush any efforts towards 'Taiwan independence' and foreign interference.

Zhang Xiaogang, representing the Ministry of National Defence, expressed these views during a press conference when asked about reports regarding the arrival of new battle tanks acquired by Taiwan from the United States.

"We call upon the US to adhere to the one-China principle and the three joint communiqués between China and the US, sincerely uphold its commitment to not endorse 'Taiwan independence', halt military support for Taiwan immediately, and refrain from any actions that threaten peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait," Zhang stated.

Zhang added that seeking independence by depending on US backing is bound to fail, and that using force to oppose reunification is futile, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

"A few pieces of US weaponry will not serve as a 'magic straw' for those in distress; they are merely easy targets on the battlefield," Zhang remarked.

"The People's Liberation Army will thoroughly enhance its combat readiness, boost its ability to fight and win, and decisively thwart any 'Taiwan independence' separatist schemes and foreign interference," he continued.

On Wednesday, China criticized the 'negative Taiwan-related content' included in the recent US National Defence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025.

Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made similar comments at a press conference, claiming that this inclusion was an effort by the US to further arm Taiwan and instigate conflict in the Taiwan Strait.

"The Taiwan issue is solely an internal matter for China and does not permit any foreign interference," the spokesperson emphasized.

The inclusion of such content sends significantly misleading signals to 'Taiwan independence' factions and severely undermines peace and stability in the Strait, which "we strongly condemn and oppose," Chen stated.

He urged the US to align its actions with its pledge of not supporting 'Taiwan independence' and to cease military support for Taiwan, while warning the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan that no amount of US weaponry can alter the historical trajectory towards China's reunification.
