Mainland Criticizes US Military Sales to Taiwan, Warns of Serious Repercussions: Official

Beijing, Dec 1 (NationPress) A spokesperson from the Chinese mainland on Sunday criticized US military sales to Taiwan and vehemently condemned its efforts to militarize the region.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, expressed these views in reaction to the US announcement regarding the approval of 385 million US dollars in military sales to Taiwan, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Chen also took aim at the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan, asserting that paying 'protection fees' would result in no security for Taiwan, but rather lead to self-destruction.
"Cease soliciting US backing for 'Taiwan independence' as such endeavors are destined to fail," he stated.
Chen indicated that this US action stands in stark contradiction to the commitments made by US leaders to refrain from supporting 'Taiwan independence' and constitutes a serious violation of the one-China principle as well as the three China-US joint communiques, particularly the August 17 Communique of 1982.
The spokesperson urged the United States to halt its military support for Taiwan immediately. "Do not underestimate China's resolve to implement strong and decisive countermeasures to protect its national sovereignty and territorial integrity," he added.
