Currently, 2042 patients are being treated in various hospitals in Bangladesh. According to the report, 62.6% of the patients are men, while 37.4% are women. Last year, 575 individuals succumbed to dengue. During the same period, the DGHS reported a total of 101,214 dengue cases and 100,040 recoveries.
On September 16, the DGHS issued new directives for public hospitals to enhance the treatment of dengue patients. As per the guidelines, all hospitals in Bangladesh are required to set up dedicated wards for dengue treatment and assemble specialized medical teams. The DGHS believes this approach will improve patient care, reduce risks, and enhance the quality of hospital services, according to local media reports.
The DGHS Director (Hospitals and Clinics), Abu Hossain Md Mainul Ahsan, issued this directive on Tuesday. Hospitals are instructed to make special arrangements for dengue patients and ensure facilities for NS-1 tests, emergency care, and an adequate supply of medicines, as reported by the Dhaka Tribune.
Dengue patients in hospitals should be accommodated in designated wards or rooms, with priority given to ICU support when necessary. Moreover, healthcare providers have been assigned special responsibilities.
The directive also calls for the formation of a board comprising specialists from various fields for the treatment of dengue and chikungunya patients. Under this board's supervision, trained doctors, medical officers, and residents will care for dengue and chikungunya patients.
Additionally, the same board and physicians must also attend to suspected patients visiting outpatient departments in hospitals. Hospital directors are mandated to communicate with city corporations or municipalities to initiate mosquito eradication and cleanliness drives around hospital premises. Furthermore, a dengue coordination meeting is to be held at hospitals every Saturday, chaired by the director, superintendent, and civil surgeon.
