Dengue is a viral illness transmitted by mosquitoes, mainly the Aedes aegypti species. It is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions globally. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, rash, and nausea. In severe cases, it can cause complications such as dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome, which can be life-threatening. While there is no specific treatment for dengue, supportive care, including fluid management, can alleviate symptoms. Preventive measures focus on controlling mosquito populations and avoiding bites through the use of repellents, nets, and the elimination of breeding sites.
