Oslo, Oct 1 (NationPress) The United States is set to enhance Denmark's defenses with anti-drone technology during the upcoming informal gathering of European Union (EU) heads of state and government on Wednesday, followed by the European Political Community (EPC) summit on Thursday in Copenhagen, according to an announcement from the Danish Ministry of Defence.
In addition to U.S. support, European allies have rallied to assist Denmark. The German frigate FGS Hamburg has arrived in Copenhagen to bolster airspace monitoring, while France is sending a Fennec military helicopter and personnel. Sweden will contribute radar systems along with counter-drone capabilities.
Ukraine has also offered its support to strengthen Denmark's counter-drone initiatives, as reported by Danish broadcaster DR and Xinhua.
Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated that these allied contributions were organized in the last few days to ensure the security of the meetings. He emphasized that this support would enhance Denmark's capacity to deploy resources in coordination with local police forces.
In the lead-up to the summits, increased drone activity has led to interruptions at airports and prompted stricter security protocols. Copenhagen Kastrup Airport temporarily closed its airspace for around four hours on September 22 due to drone sightings, while Aalborg Airport also restricted its airspace for several hours on September 24. Reports of drone activity have been received near Esbjerg, Sonderborg, and Skrydstrup Air Base.
To further protect the events, Denmark has implemented a nationwide ban on all civilian drone flights from September 29 to October 3.
Currently, Denmark holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union for the period July-December 2025.
