Cairo, March 24 (NationPress) Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Palestinian counterpart Mohammad Mustafa convened to address ongoing initiatives aimed at revitalizing the ceasefire in Gaza and promoting its reconstruction.

During their discussion, Madbouly emphasized the critical necessity of preserving the ceasefire in Gaza and initiating early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the region, reiterating Egypt's steadfast support for the Palestinian people and their right to their homeland, as stated by the Egyptian cabinet on Sunday.

He highlighted the Egypt-initiated Gaza reconstruction plan, which received approval at an emergency Arab summit earlier this month, and assured of enhanced coordination with various regional and international entities, including the Palestinian leadership, to expedite its execution.

Mustafa, in response, reaffirmed the significance of maintaining the ceasefire to enable recovery and rebuilding initiatives.

He also informed Madbouly about Palestine's active diplomatic actions with Arab, Islamic, and international stakeholders to address the Gaza situation, as well as the preparations for a Gaza reconstruction conference scheduled to take place in Cairo.

The two leaders agreed to persist in their consultations and coordination in the upcoming period to bolster efforts for implementing the reconstruction plan and upholding the ceasefire.

The Arab summit, conducted on March 4, endorsed a $53 billion reconstruction strategy aimed at rebuilding Gaza over five years without displacing its inhabitants.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has significantly worsened.

Since early Tuesday, the Israeli military has intensified airstrikes throughout the enclave, effectively concluding a two-month ceasefire.

In the past week, Israel has resumed extensive airstrikes and ground operations in Gaza, violating a two-month truce and resulting in hundreds of casualties.

The ongoing conflict has led to the loss of 50,000 Palestinian lives, predominantly among women and children, according to UN estimates, and has devastated over 60% of homes and 65% of roads.

Health authorities in Gaza reported on Sunday at least 673 fatalities and 1,233 injuries since the escalation.

The European Union has also voiced support for the Arab initiative.

This proposal aims to counter US-Israeli strategies to permanently displace Gaza residents, with US President Donald Trump’s plan to “take over” and “own” Gaza facing widespread condemnation.

This five-year initiative aims to secure permanent housing for the 2 million residents of Gaza, the majority of whom have been forced to flee due to the conflict, while establishing essential services and infrastructure, including an airport.

Politically, an administrative committee comprising Palestinian professionals and independent technocrats is set to oversee Gaza, which is currently controlled by Hamas, until the Palestinian Authority can reassert authority over the region as part of the plan.
