Washington, Nov 11 (NationPress) Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra extended his congratulations to Sergio Gor, the newly appointed US envoy to India, following his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday. He expressed his best wishes for Gor's upcoming role in New Delhi.
In a message on X, Gor remarked, “Heartfelt congratulations @SergioGor on your inauguration as the Ambassador of the U.S. to India. Best of luck as you gear up for this important assignment in New Delhi. It was a pleasure to celebrate at the @kencen [Kennedy Centre] last evening on this momentous occasion.”
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the White House on Monday, hosted by US President Donald Trump. Gor was sworn in by Vice President JD Vance, with notable figures from the Trump administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in attendance.
During the ceremony, Trump mentioned he is nearing the finalization of a trade agreement with India, stating, “We are working on a deal with India, which is significantly different from past agreements... We are close to achieving a fair trade deal that benefits all parties involved.”
Trump also emphasized his strong rapport with Prime Minister Modi, referring to India as one of America’s most “crucial international partnerships.”
“I trust Sergio will bolster one of our nation’s most vital international relationships, the strategic partnership with the Republic of India. This is significant, as India boasts one of the world’s oldest civilizations and is the largest country globally... Our relationship with Modi has been fantastic, and Sergio will further enhance that, given his existing rapport with the Prime Minister,” Trump stated.
He described India as an “incredible nation” and a key economic and strategic ally in the Indo-Pacific region.
“I am confident you [Gor] will achieve great success in this pivotal relationship... It’s also the fastest-growing middle class and serves as an essential economic and strategic security partner in the Indo-Pacific. It’s an extraordinary country,” he noted.
Gor expressed gratitude to Trump for his nomination and pledged to strengthen India-US relations.
“Having stood by your side for many years, it is a tremendous honor to take on this role, and I look forward to enhancing the ties between our two nations,” he added.
Gor, confirmed by a Senate vote in October, is the youngest US ambassador to India at 38. He is among Trump's closest aides and previously served as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, where he was responsible for vetting over 4,000 positions within the new administration.
