Washington, Nov 10 (NationPress) - On Monday, US President Donald Trump will be present at the swearing-in ceremony for Sergio Gor, the new US ambassador to India and one of his close aides. An email from the White House on Sunday confirmed Trump's attendance at the "Swearing-in Ceremony for the Ambassador to the Republic of India."
Sergio Gor is anticipated to assume his duties in New Delhi shortly after the ceremony. Following his confirmation by a Senate vote in October, the 38-year-old Gor is set to become the youngest US ambassador to India. He has been a trusted aide to Trump and previously served as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, where he was responsible for vetting over 4,000 appointments in the new administration.
Trump announced Gor's nomination via Truth Social in August, stating, "For the most populous region in the world, it is crucial that I have someone I can depend on to implement my agenda and assist us in 'Making America Great Again'. Sergio will be an outstanding ambassador."
In his role, Gor will also act as a special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs. During his Senate confirmation hearing in September, he referred to India as a "strategic partner whose future will influence the region and beyond."
He highlighted, "India's geographical location, economic development, and military strength make it a pillar of regional stability and a vital component in promoting prosperity and enhancing our shared security interests. Our relationship with India is one of the most significant for our nation globally. I will work diligently to advance our presidential agenda by strengthening defense collaborations, ensuring equitable trade, enhancing energy security, and promoting technological advancements."
Gor emphasized the importance of bolstering defense ties with India, stating, "I will focus on enhancing defense and security cooperation with India, which includes expanding joint military exercises, fostering co-development and co-production of defense systems, and finalizing essential defense sales."
He had previously met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New York during the UN General Assembly in September, with both leaders expressing their commitment to strengthening the US-India relationship.
Following his Senate confirmation, Gor took a four-day trip to India, where he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials. After their meeting, Gor expressed on X, "It was an honor to meet PM Narendra Modi this evening. Our relationship with India will only grow stronger in the coming months!"
PM Modi responded positively, stating, "I was pleased to welcome Mr. Sergio Gor... I am confident that his term will further enhance the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership."
