Erdogan Engages Somali and Ethiopian Leaders to Mitigate Regional Strife

Ankara, December 12 (NationPress) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to address the increasing tensions between the two nations located in the Horn of Africa.
The high-profile discussions, which included prominent Turkish officials such as Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defense Minister Yasar Guler, concentrated on diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating the crisis triggered by Ethiopia's agreement with Somaliland, a self-proclaimed independent region of Somalia, in January, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Somalia has vehemently condemned this agreement, asserting that it infringes upon its sovereignty by allowing Ethiopia access to the Red Sea in exchange for recognizing Somaliland as an independent entity.
Turkey has established itself as a mediator intending to ease tensions between the two nations, with the trilateral discussions on Wednesday symbolizing a diplomatic effort to reach a peaceful resolution.
