Erdogan Declares Turkey Will Prevent Division of Syria

Ankara, Dec 11 (NationPress) Turkey will not permit Syria to transform into a battleground and face division once more, asserted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"Any attack on the stability of the new Syrian government or the integrity of ancient Syrian territories will confront both the Syrian populace and us," Erdogan remarked during a meeting of the ruling party, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

"We cannot tolerate any actions or provocations aiming to obstruct the return of our Syrian brothers and sisters to their homes," he emphasized.

Syrian militant factions, spearheaded by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), initiated a significant offensive from northern Syria starting November 27, rapidly advancing southward through government-controlled regions and seizing the capital Damascus within 12 days.

As a result of this offensive, the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad collapsed on Sunday, with al-Assad resigning and fleeing to Russia seeking asylum.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mohammed al-Bashir, an electrical engineer and leader of the "Syrian Salvation Government" in Idlib, established in 2017 by HTS and other militant groups during the Syrian civil war, announced that he has been appointed to lead a transitional government in Syria until early March 2025.
