Idlib Opposition Leader Appointed to Establish New Syrian Government: Reports

Damascus, Dec 9 (NationPress) An opposition leader in Syria's Idlib province has been assigned the responsibility of forming a new Syrian government, as reported by local media on Monday.
Muhammad al-Bashir, born in 1983, an electrical engineer and the head of the Syrian Salvation Government (SSG) in Idlib, which operates under the authority of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), will spearhead the initiative to establish a new cabinet following the swift collapse of President Bashar al-Assad's administration on Sunday, as reported by the online outlet Sawt al-Asima.
The SSG was created in 2017 by the HTS along with various Syrian opposition factions during the ongoing civil war, and it has exercised administrative and service-related powers in regions controlled by HTS in Syria, according to Xinhua.
Militant groups led by HTS launched a significant offensive from northern Syria starting on November 27 and rapidly advanced southward, seizing the capital Damascus in just 12 days.
