Turkey and Lebanon Collaborate on Syrian Affairs
Ankara, Dec 19 (NationPress) Turkey and Lebanon have decided to unite their efforts regarding Syrian matters following the fall of Bashar al-Assad, stated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"A new chapter has commenced in Syria. As two significant neighbors of Syria, we concur that we must act in unison," Erdogan remarked during a joint press conference on Wednesday with visiting Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
"The stability of Syria is vital for the stability of the region," he added, highlighting that the reconstruction of war-torn Syria would be a major focus for both countries.
Erdogan pointed out that the Israeli assaults on Lebanon are not unprecedented, and the nation has faced similar aggressions in previous years, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
He further stated that Turkey will support Lebanon against Israel's attacks, stressing the necessity for Israel to adhere to the ceasefire agreement.
Mikati expressed his gratitude to Erdogan for Turkey's backing of Lebanon during its recent conflict with Israel.
He condemned Israel for taking advantage of Syria's political turmoil and intensifying its occupation of Syrian territories, asserting that pressure should be applied on Israel to halt these actions.
Mikati, leading a Lebanese delegation, arrived in Turkey on Wednesday to discuss the latest developments in the region and strengthen bilateral relations with Erdogan and Turkish officials.
