Spanish and Lebanese Leaders Discuss Peace and Reconstruction Efforts

Madrid, Dec 11 (NationPress) Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez welcomed his Lebanese counterpart Najib Mikati on Wednesday in Madrid to tackle critical issues affecting Lebanon and the surrounding Middle East.
The office of the Spanish prime minister indicated that the discussions centered on Lebanon's precarious situation, occurring just two weeks after the ceasefire agreement with Israel took effect, and five days after the fall of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
Both leaders underlined the necessity of transforming the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel into a sustainable peace, facilitating the complete execution of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. They emphasized the urgency to permanently halt hostilities in order to promote regional stability.
Sanchez reaffirmed Spain's commitment to supporting Lebanon and assured Mikati that Spain would play a role in reconstruction initiatives, which are vital for helping displaced individuals return to their homes, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The leaders also pointed out the importance of an organized political transition that maintains Syria's territorial integrity. They concurred that a stable and peaceful Syria is critical for the overall advantage of the region, especially for Lebanon.
