Yangon, Nov 9 (NationPress) In a tragic incident on Sunday, five individuals lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries in a car crash in Shan State, eastern Myanmar, according to an official from the Myanmar Fire Services Department.

The mishap unfolded at approximately 1:20 p.m. local time when the vehicle's brakes malfunctioned, leading it to veer off the road and plunge into a ditch in Kalaw township, the official reported, as cited by Xinhua News Agency.

Among the 17 passengers, two males and three females perished, while six males and six females were injured, he added.

The car was traveling from Taunggyi to Mandalay at the time of the accident, the official noted.

Emergency responders and local fire service teams quickly arrived at the scene, transporting both the deceased and the injured to Kalaw People's Hospital, he further stated.

Earlier, on November 3, another tragic accident in Shan State claimed two lives and left seven people injured, as reported by a local police officer to Xinhua.

This incident occurred in Kengtung township due to a vehicle rollover, allegedly caused by speeding, resulting in all victims being male. One victim died on-site, while the other succumbed to injuries upon reaching the hospital.

Furthermore, on October 22, a separate accident in the Magway region of central Myanmar resulted in five deaths and four injuries, according to an official from the Magway region fire services department. The collision happened around 1:30 p.m. local time in Magway town when an oil tanker carrying three people collided head-on with a light truck with six passengers. Tragically, two individuals from the oil tanker and three from the truck lost their lives at the scene.
