Yangon, Nov 9 (NationPress) In a tragic incident on Sunday, five individuals lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries in a car crash in Shan State, eastern Myanmar, according to an official from the Myanmar Fire Services Department.

The mishap unfolded at approximately 1:20 p.m. local time when the vehicle's brakes malfunctioned, leading it to veer off the road and plunge into a ditch in Kalaw township, the official reported, as cited by Xinhua News Agency.

Among the 17 passengers, two males and three females perished, while six males and six females were injured, he added.

The car was traveling from Taunggyi to Mandalay at the time of the accident, the official noted.
