Foreigner Penalized for Illegally Imported Alcohol in Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan, Dec 7 (NationPress) A 42-year-old Malaysian individual in Brunei was penalized with a fine of 7,000 Brunei dollars ($5,225) for the possession of smuggled alcoholic beverages, according to local media reports on Saturday.
On Wednesday, customs officials in Brunei halted a vehicle for a routine inspection and uncovered 192 cans of alcoholic drinks that had been illegally imported into the nation without the necessary permits, as reported by Xinhua, referencing the local publication, Borneo Bulletin.
The Magistrate's Court in Brunei mandated the confiscation of all the seized beverages, which will be turned over to the government for destruction. The report indicated that if the man fails to remit the fines, he will face six months in prison.
Brunei, a Sultanate situated in Southeast Asia, enforces stringent laws regarding the sale and consumption of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages.
