Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, April 12 (NationPress) - In a surprising incident, a BMW driver was apprehended by traffic authorities in Hyderabad for allegedly employing an advanced technology to alter his vehicle’s license plate in an attempt to evade traffic fines, as reported by officials on Sunday.
The police uncovered this high-tech deception during a routine check aimed at curbing drunk driving in the affluent Jubilee Hills area on Saturday night.
Reports indicate that the vehicle owner was swapping license plates to dodge traffic penalties.
The individual, who was reportedly under the influence, had installed a system of remotely operated flip number plates, enabling him to change the car’s registration with a mere button press.
The traffic police were taken aback by the sophisticated setup designed to modify the number plate.
The driver had two separate plates registered in Delhi and Telangana to facilitate the evasion of fines.
This incident marks the first recorded case of a vehicle being equipped with such a high-tech license plate alteration system.
The police have seized the vehicle and initiated a case, with further investigations ongoing.
In the meantime, Hyderabad traffic police announced that a total of 466 drunk driving cases were recorded in just the past two days. The enforcement remains stringent throughout the city to promote road safety, with the majority of violations involving two-wheelers (404 cases). The remaining nine offenders had BAC levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
All offenders will face court proceedings, as stated by Cyberabad Traffic Police.
