Patna, Jan 16 (NationPress) Four police officials from the Sultanganj police station were apprehended for allegedly hoarding liquor bottles on the premises of the police station.

This incident marks a significant infraction, especially in Bihar, where a strict alcohol prohibition has been in place since 2016. The City SP of Patna (East), K Ramdas, confirmed the incident, mentioning that an FIR has been filed against the implicated policemen.

“After their arrest, the four officers were presented in civil court, which subsequently placed them in judicial custody,” Ramdas stated.

The apprehension of these four officers from Sultanganj police station has unveiled a serious lapse in duty and corruption within law enforcement.

The individuals arrested include ASI Murari Singh, Constable Nagendra Paswan, Constable Santosh Paswan, and driver Shailesh Kumar.

“On December 14, a team led by ASI Murari Singh caught four individuals transporting 46 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in a WagonR car. However, the team released the driver along with the vehicle, which is a blatant violation of procedure. They also registered an FIR only against three individuals while disclosing only 30 bottles of liquor as seizures,” Ramdas remarked.

During questioning, the arrested suspects disclosed that there were four individuals in the vehicle, but the police team intentionally let the driver and vehicle go.

“A thorough search of the Sultanganj police station grounds revealed 16 liquor bottles buried under clay near a Peepal tree within the station area. The liquor bottles were immediately seized,” he said.

He added that an FIR was filed against the four police officials who have also been arrested.

“Their conduct has been characterized as a case of corruption in uniform, breaching the stringent liquor prohibition laws that have been in effect in Bihar since 2016,” he said.

This case emphasizes the Bihar government’s resolute approach to enforcing the liquor ban, even against members of law enforcement who violate these regulations.
