Saran Police Confiscate 844 Cartons of Liquor Valued at Rs 50 Lakhs

Patna, Dec 28 (NationPress) In a major crackdown on Friday, the Saran Police confiscated 844 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during a vehicle inspection drive.
The operation took place in Umdha village, under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station.
The intercepted vehicle had a Nagaland registration number and was found illegally transporting liquor into Bihar, where the sale and consumption of alcohol has been prohibited since 2016.
Upon noticing the police presence, the vehicle's driver abandoned the scene. A search of the container revealed a substantial amount of Imperial Blue brand foreign liquor, estimated to be worth around Rs 50 lakh.
"We received confidential information regarding a container with a Nagaland number plate entering Saran. Consequently, we set up a trap with makeshift barricades at Umdha village and successfully seized the illegal cargo," stated a police officer from the Mufassil police station.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the liquor was intended for New Year celebrations in Bihar.
Authorities are currently working to trace the owner of the container using its registration details. This operation is part of ongoing initiatives by the district police to combat the illegal transport and consumption of alcohol in the state during the festive period.
In light of the approaching New Year, various security agencies are intensifying their surveillance on smugglers.
On December 25, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended two individuals and confiscated a substantial shipment of foreign cigarettes on Wednesday.
The value of the seized items was approximately Rs 1.5 crore in the international market.
DRI acted on specific intelligence regarding cigarette smuggling from Myanmar, leading to a trap set at the Gaighat toll plaza on National Highway 57 in Muzaffarpur district.
Previously, on December 21, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) executed a successful operation in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, resulting in the arrest of an individual and the confiscation of 2 kilograms of morphine on Saturday.
The seized substance was valued at around Rs 5 crore in the international market.
This high-value drug had been smuggled into Muzaffarpur from Myanmar.
