Patna, Oct 27 (NationPress) In a significant operation preceding the Bihar Assembly elections, Bettiah Police confiscated a substantial shipment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during a specialized mission in the Gaunaha police area early on Monday.
Following a reliable tip, law enforcement recovered 1,128 litres hidden within 122 cartons of IMFL from two Bolero vehicles and detained one smuggler, while three others escaped.
As per police reports, around 12:20 AM on Monday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Shaurya Suman was informed that a large volume of liquor was on its way to Ramnagar.
In a swift response, a collaborative team from the District Technical Branch and Gaunaha Police Station was established under his leadership.
The team intercepted the vehicles near Madhopur Sareh, where the smugglers attempted to flee, abandoning their vehicles.
Police arrested Neeraj Kumar, son of the late Shambhu Shah, a resident of Purani Bazaar Ward No. 1, under Shikarpur Police Station in West Champaran district.
Upon inspection, officers discovered the liquor cartons and seized both vehicles.
A case has been filed under Gaunaha Police Station Case No. 159/25 against the vehicle owner, driver, and two other suspects.
SP Shaurya Suman emphasized that ongoing raids and surveillance efforts are in place throughout the district to combat illegal liquor trafficking.
“Bettiah Police is thoroughly equipped to uphold law and order and ensure strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct during the electoral period,” Suman remarked.
To promote a free, fair, and transparent electoral process, a joint initiative is being conducted by the District Administration, Police, Excise Department, Income Tax Department, Narcotics Control Bureau, Customs, and CM Flying Squad teams.
Stringent actions are being enforced against anti-social and disruptive elements to maintain peace and order.
An official from the Election Commission indicated that the main objective of these initiatives is to guarantee that voters in Bihar can freely exercise their right to vote, without any obstacles.
