Hamas Urges Syrian People to Stand Together

Gaza, Dec 9 (NationPress) Hamas on Monday urged the Syrian populace to unite.
"We call on all components of the Syrian people to unite their ranks, foster greater national unity, and transcend the sorrows of the past," stated Hamas in a press release.
"We, as part of the Hamas movement alongside our Palestinian compatriots, strongly support the esteemed Syrian people, affirming the unity of Syria, the integrity of its lands, and the respect for the Syrian populace, their aspirations, autonomy, and political choices," it continued.
In its announcement, Hamas denounced Israel's "repeated brutal aggression" against Syrian lands, "categorically" rejecting "any Zionist ambitions or schemes targeting our sisterly nation, its territory, and its people," as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Simultaneously, Ziyad al-Nakhalah, Secretary-General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, remarked that the transformations in Syria are "a Syrian matter and pertain to the decisions made by the Syrian people."
"We hope that Syria continues to be a genuine supporter of the Palestinian people and their rightful cause," he added in a press statement.
In a remarkable development on Sunday, opposition forces in Syria took control of the capital, Damascus, following a swift offensive that led to major Syrian cities falling within mere days.
