Historic Visit of Egyptian President to Norway Initiates Crucial Middle East Discussions

Oslo, Dec 10 (NationPress) Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store received Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi in Oslo, signifying the inaugural visit of an Egyptian leader to Norway.

Their dialogue focused on urgent regional and bilateral matters, particularly the ongoing challenges faced in the Middle East, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

"The situation in the Middle East was central to the discussions, especially the recent dramatic events in Syria over the past few days," Store remarked, emphasizing that both Norway and Egypt "share concerns regarding the necessity for a peaceful transition for the Syrian populace and the importance of maintaining stability in the region."

The two leaders underscored their joint efforts to resolve the Palestinian issue. Store acknowledged Egypt's role in mediating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas while also facilitating humanitarian assistance to Gaza, expressing appreciation for Egypt's assistance in evacuating Norwegian citizens from Gaza last autumn.

Both nations reiterated their dedication to a two-state solution and a political resolution for Palestine.

The meeting also highlighted the strengthening of cooperation in the fields of green technology and renewable energy. Agreements were finalized between the Norwegian renewable energy firm Scatec and Egyptian collaborators.
