Sanaa, March 17 (NationPress) Yemen's Houthis on Monday executed a second strike aimed at a US aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea following recent airstrikes by the US military on Houthi positions.

“In reaction to the ongoing American aggression against our nation... our armed forces have targeted the USS Harry Truman for the second time within 24 hours, utilizing ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones,” stated Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea in a release on Monday.

“Our armed forces successfully thwarted an impending attack that the enemy was preparing against us by launching multiple rocket and drone strikes that forced their warplanes to retreat,” he added.

Sarea also pledged to broaden their attacks to encompass all US naval and commercial vessels in the area if the US airstrikes persist.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command indicated in a post on X that operations against the Houthi group were ongoing, referring to new airstrikes targeting Houthi sites, as reported by the Xinhua news agency citing Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.

Al-Masirah reported that US airstrikes on Monday hit a cotton ginning factory in Zabid District, south of the western province of Hodeidah, and the governorate building in the northeastern province of Al-Jawf. There were no immediate casualty reports.

The Houthi-run health ministry in Sanaa stated that the death toll from US airstrikes has risen to 53, including five children and two women, with 98 others injured. Rescue operations are ongoing to find those trapped beneath the rubble.

The US airstrikes began Saturday evening as President Donald Trump promised to sustain air attacks until the Houthis ceased their assaults on international shipping lines and vessels.

The US has intensified its strikes against the Iran-supported Houthis, with President Trump declaring on Saturday his intention to utilize ‘overwhelming lethal force’ against the rebels who have targeted international ships in the Red Sea in ‘solidarity’ with Gaza.

Multiple US strikes in Yemen's capital Sanaa and other regions have resulted in significant casualties, with the militants also threatening escalation amid one of the most extensive assaults since the conflict in Gaza commenced in October 2023.
