Sanaa, Jan 15 (NationPress) The Houthi movement in Yemen declared on Wednesday that it has executed a new assault on the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier situated in the Red Sea, employing cruise missiles and drone strikes. In a broadcast by Houthi-operated al-Masirah TV, military spokesperson Yahya Sarea stated, "This operation occurred while US forces were gearing up for a new airstrike against Yemen." He further noted that this marks the sixth offensive on the US carrier since its deployment to the region.

Sarea pledged to persist with attacks targeting Israel and US military forces until, as he expressed, "the conflict in Gaza ceases." The strike on the USS Harry Truman reportedly transpired in the early hours of Wednesday, according to Houthi reports. The US military has yet to respond to this assertion.

Just last week, the Houthis claimed to have aimed at the USS Harry Truman in the Red Sea, with the engagement allegedly extending over nine hours, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

On Friday, Israel announced it had initiated a coordinated airstrike with the US-led naval coalition, targeting a power station and two ports within the Houthi-controlled regions of Sanaa, Amran province, and the port city of Hodeidah.

Al-Masirah reported casualties from Friday's offensive, including one fatality and nine wounded.

The Houthis have maintained dominance over a significant portion of northern Yemen since late 2014, when they ousted the internationally recognized Yemeni government from Sanaa.

Since November 2023, the group has been conducting rocket and drone attacks against Israel and disrupting shipping associated with Israel in the Red Sea, showing solidarity with Palestinians amid their ongoing struggles with Israel.

In retaliation, Israel has executed several rounds of airstrikes on Houthi installations. Additionally, the US-led naval coalition in the region has engaged in air raids and strikes targeting Houthi locations since January 2024, aiming to counter the group's operations. This escalation has prompted the Houthis to broaden their assaults to encompass US warships.
