Aden, Jan 19 (NationPress) U.S. forces executed new airstrikes in the northern region of Sanaa early Sunday, following assertions by the Houthi group regarding an attack on a U.S. aircraft carrier and warships in the Red Sea, according to reports from Houthi media.

The Houthi-operated Al-Masirah TV disclosed that four U.S. airstrikes targeted the Al-Azraqeen area, located north of the capital, Sanaa. Residents in the vicinity informed Xinhua of loud explosions echoing throughout the city after the strikes.

These attacks occurred shortly after Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea declared a 'joint Yemeni military operation' aimed at the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman and its accompanying vessels situated north of the Red Sea, utilizing 'drones and cruise missiles.'

Sarea further stated that the operation 'successfully achieved its goals' and noted that this marked the eighth strike against the carrier since it was deployed to the Red Sea area, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The U.S. Central Command had previously informed about the carrier group's arrival in the Red Sea on December 14.

As a caution to foreign forces, Sarea warned that the Houthi forces would 'confront any aggression with qualitative military operations' without constraints during the ongoing ceasefire in Gaza.

This new escalation follows the Houthi group's declaration on Saturday evening regarding the launch of two missiles directed at Israeli targets in the Eilat region.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have engaged in missile and drone assaults against what they termed 'Israel-linked' vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, aiming to express solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

In retaliation, the U.S.-British naval coalition positioned in these waters has been conducting regular air raids and missile strikes against Houthi targets since January 2024, in an effort to deter the group.
