Humanitarian Aid Initiatives Commence for 80,000 Individuals in Conflict-Impacted Area of Sudan's Capital

Khartoum, Jan 7 (NationPress) Humanitarian aid is being distributed in the southern sector of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, with the goal of assisting more than 80,000 individuals who are suffering from severe humanitarian challenges amid the ongoing civil conflict, according to a local volunteer organization.

Eight distribution centers have been established to provide aid to thousands of inhabitants in Al-Azhari, Al-Ingaz, Ed Hussein, and Mayo neighborhoods, located south of Khartoum,

stated Mohamed Kandasha, spokesperson for the South Khartoum Emergency Room, while speaking to Xinhua.

"This marks the first instance of aid being distributed since the conflict erupted" in April 2023, Kandasha noted, adding that the distribution effort is slated to occur over three days, as per Xinhua news agency.

For the first time since the outbreak of violence, the World Food Program has successfully delivered a caravan of 28 trucks laden with food supplies, which includes five trucks filled with essential medicines, to the southern area of Khartoum, the UN agency has reported.

The South Khartoum Emergency Room has played a crucial role in ensuring the arrival of humanitarian aid trucks to the region.

"Thanks to close collaboration with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), international organizations, and United Nations agencies, we were able to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid in late December," Kandasha expressed.

According to official data, 28.9 million individuals within the country require humanitarian assistance due to the ongoing conflict between the SAF and RSF that has persisted since mid-April 2023.

The devastating conflict has resulted in approximately 30,000 fatalities and displaced over 14 million people, either within Sudan or abroad, as per estimations from international organizations.
