Islamabad, Jan 5 (NationPress) – A tragic incident occurred in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, where an improvised explosive device (IED) blast resulted in the death of at least one individual and left nine others injured. The explosion targeted a cement factory vehicle in the Lakki Marwat district, as reported by local media, referencing police sources.

The police disclosed that the blast transpired on Begukhel Road near Nawarkhel Mor. The deceased has been identified as Fareedullah, while the injured include individuals named Mir Ahmad, Abdul Malik, Umar Khan, Masal Khan, and Syed Jan, according to reports from Geo News.

Emergency teams from Rescue 1122 promptly arrived at the scene to transport the injured to City Hospital in Lakki.

This blast is part of a worrying trend of increased attacks targeting law enforcement in Pakistan, particularly in the border regions of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Notably, this incident follows a day after the killing of four police officers in two separate shootings in Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts of the same province.

According to police reports, three officers were shot dead by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle while they were on duty in Sarai Naurang. The deceased have been named as Naurang Jalal Khan, Azizullah, and Abdullah. A search operation is currently underway in the area.

In another incident, a police officer was also killed in the Mandan area of Bannu when gunmen opened fire as he was en route to the Mandan Police Station for duty.

Earlier on January 3, an attack on a police post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the death of one person and injuries to three others, including two police personnel.

The attack occurred around 2 a.m. at a police post in the Barang tehsil of Bajaur district. The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Naseem Gul, a local resident.

According to a police spokesperson, the injured included two officers, Constable Suliman Khan (35) and Constable Saz Muhammad (58), along with a school watchman named Sahibzada (28). The militants used both heavy and light weapons during the attack.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has raised alarms regarding the deteriorating security and law enforcement situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa throughout 2025.

This region exhibits alarming instability, experiencing frequent militant assaults.

The HRCP's latest report, titled 'Caught in the Crossfire: Civilians, Security and the Crisis of Justice in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Merged Districts', cites the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies and reveals that in July 2025 alone, there were at least 82 militant attacks across the nation, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including its former tribal districts, accounting for nearly two-thirds of these incidents.

In September 2025, 45 militant attacks were recorded in the province, resulting in 54 fatalities and 49 injuries.

Among these September figures, the merged districts reported 20 militant attacks, leading to the deaths of 21 individuals, including six security personnel, three militants, and twelve civilians, while injuring seven others.

The HRCP's report highlights that Mian Iftikhar Hussain, the President of the Awami National Party (ANP), has characterized the security situation as significantly more precarious than commonly perceived, emphasizing that various militant organizations are active not only in the merged districts but also in more settled areas of the region, with reports of the terrorist outfit Daesh being operational there.
