Pakistan blast kills 7 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Lakki Marwat district
At least seven people, including two police personnel, were killed in a blast in the Serai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat district in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, according to local media reports citing local police. Another 23 people were injured in the explosion, according to the Lakki Marwat district police spokesperson.
Nature of the Blast
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the explosion. According to the district police spokesperson, it remained unclear whether a rickshaw carrying explosives was parked in the area or whether a suicide bomber detonated the device. Experts from the Bomb Disposal Squad were deployed at the site to determine the nature of the blast.
The bodies of those killed were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, while several of the injured were shifted to hospitals in Bannu. Videos circulating on social media showed multiple shops and three-wheelers damaged in the explosion. A large police contingent cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence.
The Bannu Checkpoint Attack Days Earlier
The Lakki Marwat blast comes just days after a devastating suicide attack on Sunday at the Fateh Khel police checkpoint in Bannu, in which at least 15 police personnel were killed. According to reports, an armed group rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the checkpoint, reducing the structure to rubble.
Following the blast, militants reportedly opened indiscriminate fire from multiple directions, triggering hours of heavy gunfire, further explosions, and widespread panic across the area. Bannu Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan confirmed that 18 police personnel were deployed at the checkpoint at the time of the attack.
