Islamabad, April 7 (NationPress) - A recent explosion in the town of Shahbazkhel, located in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has left five police personnel injured, as confirmed by local police sources.
As reported by the prominent Pakistani newspaper Dawn, Qudratullah, the spokesperson for the district police, attributed the attack to a group known as 'Fitna-al-Khawarij', which is associated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The explosion occurred on the Bannu-Dera Ismail Khan stretch of the Peshawar-Karachi Indus Highway.
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated, which had been concealed on a motorcycle parked along the roadside. This explosion specifically targeted a police patrol from the Shahbazkhel police station.
The spokesperson indicated that among the injured were one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and four constables. The police vehicle they were in suffered significant damage due to the blast. The injured officers were promptly transported to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical attention.
Following the explosion, a substantial police presence was deployed to the town, where they promptly cordoned off the area and initiated a search for the individuals responsible for the attack.
In recent months, police forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been increasingly subjected to assaults, with incidents occurring in areas such as Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Bajaur.
Earlier this week, in a separate incident in Bannu, two police personnel and a private security guard were killed when they were targeted by unidentified gunmen.
In the first attack, a police constable named Sher Mohammad was shot dead while heading to his duty station near the Kingar Jan Bahadar region on Miryan Road. Law enforcement quickly responded to the scene, securing the area and launching a search operation.
The second incident took place in Bakakhel, Bannu, where another police constable, Rafiullah, stationed at a Nadra office, and a private security guard, Gul Shah Noor, were tragically killed in a shooting. Police arrived at the location, secured it, collected evidence, and began a search for the assailants.
